Thulasi’s father Manickam (Subhalekha Sudhakar) wants her to marry an elderly man Velayudham (Nizhalgal Ravi) despite Thulasi’s protest. Manickam coaxes Thulasi that the only way she can wipe away the sin committed by her mother who had eloped away with another man is by marrying Velayudham. Stung by guilt, Thulasi agrees to marry Velayudham despite their age difference. Velayudham in return offers Manickam a huge amount of cash. But fate has other plans, and so by mistake, the photos of Thulasi and that of another girl Lavanya (Shalu Kurian) mixes up in the photo studio and ends up in the hands of the Hero – Tamilzharasu (Deepak Dinkar). Lavanya happens to be the sister of Tamizharasu. On seeing Thulasi’s photo, she conveys that she likes to have a sister-in-law looking as beautiful as Thulasi. Attracted by Thulasi’s beauty and frequent taunts by Lavanya, Tamizharasu falls in love with Thulasi. Thulasi initially refuses to accept Tamizharasu’s love.Later she falls for him when he stops her marriage with Velayudham and joins her in an Engineering college paying the fees for her.
Tamizharasu’s mother wants him to marry a rich and voluptuous girl of her choice so that she can be the controller of her second daughter-in-law. Her relationship with the eldest-daughter-in-law Sudha (Bhavya kala) is not in good terms and so she wants to marry Tamizharasu a rich girl who is ready to be within the line drawn by her. She selects Charulatha (Srividya) the adopted daughter of a rich businessman, as the prospective bride. Tamizharasu is deeply saddened by Thulasi’s refusal and so he accepts the engagement between him and Charu. Charu surrenders herself to Tamizh and sees him as her husband already but Tamizh only loves Thulasi. Sudden turn of events sees Tamizh marrying Thulasi later in a temple opposing his mother. Charu is shattered by the turn of events and slowly she turns into a psychopath after directly witnessing the marriage between Tamizh and Thulasi. She develops a deadly vengeance towards Thulasi as she assumes that it was Thulasi who grabbed Tamizharasu from her. Charu and her would-be-Mother-in-law conspire to separate Tamizharasu and Thulasi. Thulasi catches the plot and explains Charu’s mentality to Tamizharasu. But Charu cleverly outwits Thulasi and by the turn of events, Tamizharasu concludes that Thulasi is not fit to be his wife. Tamizh is ready to divorce her but Thulasi begs Tamizh for a last chance to prove Charu’s dirty thoughts and succeeds in exposing her true color. Tamizharasu starts hating Charu. In disappointment and vengeance, Charu tries to commits suicide. Her track in the story is concluded by showing her as a person who had lost all her memory and is incapable of attending even to her own needs.
Then the story of Thulasi’s mother comes up. Bhuvana (Sudha Chandran) is shown as a ruthless woman who would do anything to be in power and earn wealth. Though she had eloped from her first husband Manickam, she stays devoted to her second husband Laxmanan who happens to be a doctor by profession and runs a hospital. They have a son named Prabhakar (Adams of sunTV fame).Laxmanan lives with Bhuvana and is estranged from his first wife Sundari (Yuvarani) and her son Akil. Circumstances reveal that Bhuvana is Thulasi’s mother and Thulasi conspires with Sundari, Prabhakaran to teach a lesson to Bhuvana and make her realize her mistake. Unfortunately Manickam mistakes Thulasi of siding with Bhuvana and tries to commit suicide. He was saved but he continues to hate Thulasi. Thulasi tries to explain her stance to him which goes in vain.Meanwhile, Laxmanan overwhelmed by the sufferings of his first wife Sundari and hurt by the audacity of Bhuvana, throws Bhuvana out of their house and starts living with Sundari. Bhuvana in a rage plans and burns Laxmanan’s hospital andends up in prison along with Laxmanan thus stopping Laxmanan-Sundari’s sixtieth birthday celebrations. In order to save his prestige and status, Laxmanan gets his second son Prabhakar marry Deepa (Hemalatha) – the friend of Thulasi. Deepa’s father (Rajasekhar) – a taxi driver by profession was helped both financially and medically by Laxmanan so he yields for Laxmanan’s wish. Upset by the treacherous behavior of his second wife and poor health, Laxmanan dies owing to heart attack.
Prabhakar is being lured by his Ex-lover Suchi for monetary purposes. He secretly talks to Suchi and helps her financially though he himself is in a dire state of affairs after having lost his hospital owing to debts that rose out of his father’s death. Prabhakar gives Suchi a job at his and Tamils new share-trading office. At first Tamil is against the idea of having Suchi into his office, but he eventually starts to like Suchi and he accepts her into their office. Thulasi-Tamizharasu help her other friend – Kalyani (Kavyavarshini) and Thulasi’s half-brother Mohan (Ayyappan) to get married as they had fallen in love against Thulasi’s step mother’s Padma (Sadhana) wishes. The marriage happens to be a success and Thulasi’s stepmother Padma waits to take her vengeance on Kalyani. Kalyani decides to teach Padma a suitable lesson on being advised by her mother. Kalyani’s mother dies and her sisters are in care of Padma. Prabha finds out that before his marriage Kanagu used to love Deepa so he plans to take revenge on Kanagu. Prabha makes Kanagu lose his hotel. Kalyani’s younger sister, Revathy’s puberty function approaches and Padma plans to make the function grand thus making a big burden on Mohan for the cost. Although Thulasi and Deepa find out that Suchi is up to no good they cannot prove it to their husbands. Eventually the truth about Suchi comes into limelight and she is fired. Deepa then figures out that Prabhakar was the one who closed Kanagu’s hotel, and Deepa goes to her dad’s house. Kanagu reopens his hotel but Deepa is reluctant to live with such a low-minded person.Tamil and Thulasi try to unite the couple but Deepa’s dad is against the idea.When Deepa’s dad goes to confront Prabhakar about all the mistakes that he has made, Prabhakar pushes him out of his house. Nitesh (ShyamSunder) goes to Mumbai for 6 months, so Lavanya takes her son and goes to Tamil and Thulasi’s house. Mohan and Kalyani try to sell Kalyani’s old house and they plan to invest that money on shares. However, Mohan and Kalyani are advised by Tamizh to not go ahead with their plan after Prabhkar warns Tamizh to not accept Mohan’s offer. Meanwhile Prabhakar decides to divorce Deepa
